After being issued with a European warrant of arrest at Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport, the CEO of the Swedish Unibet, Petter Nylander, was brought before a French judge and released on $288,000 bail. Nylander was charged with illegal gambling activities under France’s archaic gambling laws that only allow two state-owned companies to provide wagering services to the entire country.
Speaking from his home in the United Kingdom, Nylander slammed the French authorities for ‘harassing’ him and other online gambling company workers. He also noted that the present monopolized industry within France was not in line with the free trade markets of the European Union and, at some point, the country would need to make serious changes to its policies. France has been warned by the EU to allow foreign operators to offer their services within its borders, or face the consequences. |
