The results of an interesting six-month study into the gambling traits of European poker players were revealed this week. Everest Poker, the popular online poke room, examined to see exactly how a player’s national background affected his or her style of gaming. It was found, for example, that British players went about their game very much in the same way that they are stereotyped – very reserved and cautious. On the other hand, while it was expected that Spanish players would be fired up and passionate about poker, these players actually went about the game in a very calculated and analytical manner. The study indicated that Swedish players were aggressive and confident in their poker sessions, an indication to the fact that they feel that they still have an upper hand in the European poker market. And while poker is relatively new in Germany, it has not stopped German players from purchasing thousands of poker books in 2007 and enter games way above their own skill level so that they could learn directly from the professionals – even at the cost of losing. Italian players, on the other hand, played impulsively and unpredictably, while their French counterparts also played dramatically and sporadically.
