Online Gambling Operators Rethinking their Asian Strategies PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 April 2008

Western gambling operators are finding it increasingly difficult to break into Asian markets, despite incredible potential and the demand for their services and experience. Groups that were meant to take the lead in entering these markets are now rethinking their strategies and are showing less enthusiasm than before.

Calvin Ayre, of Bodog Life fame, said: “Bodog does not have any Asian plans at this time. We are only studying the market.” This was a far cry from the lofty plans that the company had before the effects of culture differences, fluctuating currency rates and communication apparently took their toll.

Operators who attended internet gambling conferences in Macau in past months can vouch for the feeling of aloofness coming  from their Asian counterparts. “Western operators were not treated warmly,” said a journalist who reviewed the events.

It remains to be seen whether persistence will finally pay off in this case.
