Sportsbookers in the United Kingdom reported suspicious betting patterns to the UK Gambling Commission on a game of televised pool that took place a couple of months ago. The game was played out between the world champion, Peter Embdon and a Chinese professional pool player, Liang Wenbo who is 40th seed. Embdon lost to Wenbo 5-0 and sportsbetting companies reported that there were an increased number of bets on this particular game and on this particular score. After the matter was reported to the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, the organization published a statement that said: “World Snooker is obviously aware that there was some interest in the match. However, having considered the matter and followed the proper procedures, including consultation with the Association of British Bookmakers and the Gambling Commission, we are satisfied that the action taken is appropriate.” No comment was made regarding the type of action that was taken.
