There was practically no sign of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act at sports betting sites offering Super Bowl wagers this past weekend, as millions of Americans backed their favorite teams. Sports betting sites made a roaring trade, as players bet on anything and everything, from the number of home runs to the songs that were sung during the half time show. Online gambling proponents pointed out that while the law is in place, there is very little that authorities can do to prohibit gamblers from wagering online. “Given the freedom of the internet, though there have been attempts to limit or prohibit the activity, their efforts, frankly, are ineffective,” said Michael Waxman, speaking for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative.
The past weekend only highlights the need for the United States to start legalizing and regulating its online gambling industry because, it seems, online players are not going anywhere! |
