It was smiles all around at GTech, the Providence based lottery firm, this week after the company learned that it has secured a seven year contract to operate New York’s lottery. This makes it one of the most lucrative deals signed by GTech to date, after it managed to complete the procurement process and beat some of the other top players in the industry. "The lottery is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week business," said Gordon Medenica, Director of the New York Lottery. "We process over 5.5 billion transactions a year, transactions that must be secure, impenetrable and 100 percent accurate. Our system needs to be reliable and extremely high performing. We average nearly $20 million a day in sales, and the cost of even the slightest system downtime is enormous."
