PPA Sets Aside Millions to Lobby Congress PDF Print E-mail

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the pro online poker grassroots group, has announced that it has raised $3 million that will be used directly to lobby Congress to undo the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

Former Senator Alfonse D’Amato, who acts as chairman of the 1 million member strong group, said that the time to lobby for change has never been better and that he believes that the Obama administration will see reason and introduce sweeping reforms to the current poker landscape in the United States.

Nevertheless, other action groups are already lobbying Congress to continue upholding the UIGEA, among them the powerful National Football League and other sports organizations, who believe that legalizing online poker, casino gaming and sports betting may affect the integrity of their sports.

It remains to be seen whether the $3 million will be enough to change the face of poker in the US.
