Switzerland, one of the countries where online gambling has been illegal, has announced that it will follow Denmark and France’s decision to open its boarders to international online gambling and make online poker available to all players. Companies will have to apply for a limited amount of licenses once online gambling is legalized and applications will be checked thoroughly before deciding whether to grant the license or not. Any licenses granted will be taxed. Gambling over the telephone and gambling via television will not be legalized in Switzerland. It is estimated that the Swiss Government can raise $20,000,000 once online gambling is legalized. This amount is much less than the amount raised by their Scandinavian counterparts as there are less enthusiastic gamblers in Switzerland. Online lotteries and internet sports betting has already been legalized in Switzerland and legislation to allow online gambling should take approximately three years to be implemented
