The untimely death of a 12 year old boy over an argument with his father about computer games, has led to a Thai court going to drastic measures. The Criminal Court announced that Internet Service Providers would need to deny access to over 70 online gambling sites, especially those who advertise ‘addictive’ casino games. The decision was made after the boy jumped from a sixth floor balcony after his father banned him from playing his favorite computer games. Online gaming analysts are rightfully up in arms over what they see as an unjust reaction to the industry, claiming that one type of gaming has nothing to do with the other, especially since 12 year olds are obviously not allowed to play at the type of sites they run. Interest groups are checking to see whether the court is allowed to make such a sweeping ruling.
