Bwin Denies Tax Evasion PDF Print E-mail

Austrian online gambling operator, bwin, has come out strongly against allegations that the company is evading taxes. Bwin claims that as a group licensed in Gibraltar, it pays its taxes on the island and is not obliged to pay sales tax under Austrian law.

“Bwin has always paid its taxes correctly”, said a press officer for the group, Kevin O'Neal. “We are not aware of any fiscal criminal proceedings being undertaken against bwin. Such action would also be without any merit. A routine audit initiated more than two years ago is currently still underway and has not been completed to date.”

The press officer was reacting to a piece in the Austrian Profil magazine which accused bwin of using its Gibraltar license as an excuse not to pay up to EUR 100 million in sales tax over the past 7 years. Profil has attempted to discredit bwin in the past in other articles of this nature.
