Former CEO of BetonSports, David Carruthers, who was arrested three years ago for illegal gambling activities in the United States, changed his plea to ‘not guilty’ shortly before he was due to be sentenced, it was reported. The 52 year old has been kept under house arrest for three years in Missouri as investigations into his case took place. Recently it was reported that Carruthers would enter a guilty plea but this was changed after a legal filing said that “motion to set aside defendant David Carruther’s guilty plea is granted.” The hearing will take place in a fortnight. While nobody would comment on the change of plea, it is believed that Carruther’s lawyers will argue that the Edinburgh native has already served any sentence that may have been meted out to him in a guilty plea. At its peak, BetonSports was the leading online sports betting site for players in the United States.
