With the online gambling landscape so erratic in the United States, it’s the turn of the State of Virginia to come out with a statement of its own regarding how it sees the future of this form of entertainment in the country. The Executive Director of the Virginia Lottery told a publication this week that internet gaming is a real option in the future of the state’s lottery and that without the internet, there may be no growth potential. “It’s hard to say what the future will hold, but if we continue with certain products, there is probably little or no growth from year to year,” said Paula Otto in a recent interview to the Daily Press. Otto was then asked whether she thought the future included online gambling, to which she replied: “In my view, it’s not if but when.” Ms. Otto said that while the State of Virginia has avoided the introduction of casino games in the past, it was time to face economic reality that sales are not what they used to be. As such new and interesting games would have to be introduced through the internet in order to keep the money flowing into state coffers.
