UK Bookies to Pay Out on White Christmas PDF Print E-mail

Citizens of the UK are rubbing their hands in glee – not only because some areas of the country are experiencing their first white Christmas in many years, but also because many wagered on the fact through their favorite bookies.

William Hill, for example, said that as many as 27,000 punters wagered that a single snowflake would fall in the 24 hours of December 25th, officially making it a White Christmas in bookie lingo.

“We still expect to take a hit with snow in Scotland and Northern Ireland but are hopeful that London will miss out,” said William Hill before Christmas Eve.

15,000 people bet that snow would fall in London, although forecasters were correct and the flakes narrowly missed the capital.

“We have potentially dodged a monster payout but we are still going to be watching Buckingham Palace like a hawk as just a flake or two will decide whether we are going to have a festive season or not,” said a William Hill spokesman.

Aberdeen was an odds-on favorite with 4/6, followed by Edinburgh and Glasgow.
