According to a Ladbrokes commissioned Deloitte report, the UK gambling industry is worth £6 billion and employs over 100,000 people. The report was compiled for Ladbrokes after the group realized that there were “...a lot of people in the corridors of power who have not realized the scale of this industry.” “Politicians have been very surprised by how much tax we pay and how many people we employ,” said the outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Ladbrokes, Christopher Bell. Some of the interesting facts highlighted by the report show that the retail division of the UK gambling industry generates £700 million in staff wagers, as well as £700 million for the UK government. This was remarkable, taking into account that this division generates £800 million in operating profits. Bell said that there were few industry sectors that pay as much tax as their profits.
