The Canadian province of Quebec is finalizing plans to introduce online gambling services by this fall, according to the finance minister, Raymond Bachand. Speaking on Wednesday, Bachand said that Loto Quebec hopes to generate more than $50 million over the next three years and take a good chunk out of the current online gambling market that is estimated to be worth around $675 million. According to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Loto Quebec, Alain Cousineau, Quebec residents are already exposed to thousands of online gambling sites, including some that are “illegal, unregulated and often of doubtful integrity.” “This is a way for us to channel the gaming offering in a controlled circuit and environment whose integrity will be beyond reproach,” Cousineau said. Loto Quebec will first roll out poker and sports betting services, before expanding to include other games over time.
