West Virginia was among the first states outside of Nevada to legalize sports betting and is now moving one step closer to legalizing online gambling.
Developing on its already well-known reputation as a pioneer for on-line gaming legislation, West Virginia proposed a new bill that would legalize all online activities using the bill passing the very first checkpoint with legislative.
The first hurdle bill H 2934 had to jump was the House Judiciary Committee. The HJC advanced the bill on to the second committee exactly where it is expected to become voted on soon. Jason Barrett will be the main sponsor of the bill titled West Virginia Lottery Interactive Wagering Act. There are ten other cosponsors in addition to Barrett that stated they are expecting both chambers from the committee to become in assistance from the passage.
If authorized and signed into law, the bill will allow for the state’s five casinos to offer a complete suite of on-line gambling activities including table games, slots and online poker. Online licensing charges would cost operators $250,000.
Barrett addressed the committee saying, “With our iGaming legislation, we seek once once more to lead the charge by permitting traditional land-based casino gaming to become performed via electronic devices. If passed, iGaming has the potential to bring millions of dollars in revenue to our state.”
