Gears of Time features a really wide range of bets, as you can play already for $0.05 per spin, and the maximum bet will be good enough for high rollers as it’s $60. The game is played on a large 5×5 board and it pays in clusters – more on this in the Base game section.
The game has a theoretical return to player (RTP) of 96.98%, which is incredible value for US players that are usually forced to play games with RTP of 95% and lower. Base game
Very interesting game mechanics are at play here, as Gears of Time slot pays in clusters. A cluster is a combination of horizontally and/or vertically connected symbols. The minimum number of symbols in clusters is 3, and the maximum is, of course, 25.
What’s interesting here is that whenever you connect a cluster you get a free re-spin with the cluster symbols held. If you add another symbol to your cluster, you’ll get another re-spin, and so on. This allows you to even progress to a full board win – in a much easier way than simply getting 25 same symbols right on the first spin.
In addition to this, the game will randomly select 5 positions on the board with each spin. If any of those positions are covered with a winning cluster, you got a chance to trigger one of the special Time Traveling features, and if all 5 positions are covered by winning clusters, you trigger the free spins bonus round.
There are only seven normal symbols in the game, plus a Wild, and three of these are Gears symbols you’ll see the most on your board. These can give you your stake back with a cluster of 3 or 4 symbols.
The high-win symbols pay decent prizes, culminating with the Miles Bellhouse symbol that already pays 4x your bet for the smallest cluster, ot 400x your bet for a full board win. The other three high-win symbols aren’t far behind, so you’ll be happy whenever you see them on your board too.
Time Travel features
The Past feature will trigger a re-play of your last spin. At the very end of the spin, another cascade of non-matching symbols will occure. This cascade repeats 5 times in an attempt to improve the past!
The Present feature will simply take the present win from your spin and apply a random x2 to x20 win multiplier to it.
The Future feature will select a random symbol from the board and guarantee a large number of that symbol in a free re-spin. 10 or more symbols will cascade down the time stream to your board, increasing your chances to win big.
Free Spins
When all 5 selected positions on the board are covered with winning clusters, the free spins bonus round will trigger and you’ll get to choose Past, Present or Future time stream.
Past will award 12 free spins, and each spin will receive a free re-cascade at the end of the spin in an attempt to rewrite the past. Present will award 10 free spins, with a random x2 to x20 win multiplier. Future will award only 6 free spins, but with every spin 10 or more of a randomly selected symbol will appear on the board.
It seems that the Present time stream offers the best value, and Future has the highest win potential. Past only gives the largest number of free spins, but the chance of winning big is just not there.
Verdict
